Engagements · How This Works

Start from knowledge, not persuasion.

Everything about how I work is already published — the four frames, the instruments, the cases, the workbook, the programmes. You don’t have to take a pitch on trust. You can read the method before you commission it, and challenge it before I ever walk in the room.

So an engagement doesn’t begin with me convincing you. It begins with a conversation, moves through a small, fixed-scope diagnostic, and only becomes larger work once the evidence says what that work should be. No open-ended discovery. No dependency on me when it’s done.

“If the method doesn’t persuade you on paper, don’t buy it in person.”

The Path In
01

A conversation

Forty-five minutes. You talk, I listen — through the four frames. You leave with at least one thing you can act on, whether or not we go further.

No cost · No deck
02

The diagnostic

A fixed-scope, fixed-fee read of your situation using the practice’s own instruments. Two weeks, ending in a findings brief and a clear recommendation.

Fixed fee · Two weeks
03

The engagement

Scoped from evidence, not assumption — shaped to what the diagnostic actually found. Your leaders and HR practitioners hold the work; I build their capacity to hold it — augmenting how they operate as we deliver, so it stays when I leave.

Scoped · Sequenced · Owned by you
The Entry Point

Two weeks. A fixed fee. One clear recommendation.

Before recommending anything, I read the organisation the way this whole practice teaches — through the four frames and the three human questions beneath them. It’s the same discipline you can see applied at Ironbark, run on your organisation.

Interviews with the leaders closest to the work, a read of the artefacts you already have, and a structured findings brief at the end.

If the honest finding is that you don’t need external help — that’s the finding. The brief is yours either way.

Fixed scope · Fixed fee agreed up front · Two weeks
  • A four-frame read — where the system is misaligned, and which frame is generating the noise.
  • An augmentation read — how HR and staff are already augmenting, and where simple, low-cost ways of working could build capacity now.
  • A weather report — what your people are carrying right now, read through the As We Are model.
  • A decisions read — whether the right decisions sit where they can safely be held.
  • One recommendation — the single move most likely to shift the system, sequenced and owned by a named leader.
The Engagements

Three named pieces of work.

Each is scoped from the diagnostic, draws on work published openly on this site, and ends with your leaders and practitioners owning the result — more capable than they started, not more dependent on me. Delivery and capability uplift, in the same engagement.

Who You’d Be Working With

An operator first. A practitioner who publishes.

Fifteen-plus years of executive People & Culture and transformation across nine regulated sectors — operations before HR, so I know how decisions land in real operating conditions. The last three years in South Australia: a university integration, an all-of-government contract, and a live partnering turnaround.

The whole line is on the record — each stop linked to the de-identified case that proves it.

The published method

Fifteen years, nine sectors, and a body of open work — the frames, the cases, a practitioner workbook and a leadership programme. You can read how I think before you pay for it. That’s the point of everything on this site.

The method is published.

Nothing I’d do inside your organisation is a black box. Read the frames and reasoning first; challenge them in the room.

Evidence before structure.

No restructure or framework until the diagnostic says what’s actually generating the problem. Sometimes the answer is smaller than expected.

Capability, not dependency.

Every engagement is designed to leave your leaders and HR practitioners more capable — augmented in how they work as we deliver. If it only holds while I’m in the building, it hasn’t worked.

Sequencing is the risk.

Most change fails on order, not intent. What moves first, what waits, and what never belonged in the same year — that’s where the judgement is.

The First Conversation

You’ve read the method. Now let’s talk about yours.

45 minutes. No cost, no deck, no obligation. Tell me where you are and where you need to be — you’ll leave with at least one thing worth acting on, whether or not there’s an engagement in it.

Why · Au ·

The AU is for Australia. It is also the first two letters of augmented — and the chemical symbol for gold.

Based in Adelaide, works nationally. The whole method is open on this site — read it, challenge it, then let’s talk.

The People Practice · Au · — The Way In Practice packs and case studies are set at Ironbark, a fictional composite organisation. Details are de-identified; any resemblance to actual organisations is coincidental. Back to the front page
